It is the town with the painted murals downtown, close to thirty of them, most along Pine Street. We detail at homes around the old downtown and out toward the orange groves. Foothill dust and grove dirt are hard on paint, which is most of what we clean up out here.
Living near the groves means a particular kind of dirt. Dust settles into the paint, and sprinklers and tree sap leave marks that a quick wash will not lift. That is the work we are usually called out to Exeter for.

Read moreExeter calls itself the Citrus Capital, and living next to the packing houses and the groves means a particular kind of dirt. Citrus dust is fine and slightly oily, so it clings instead of blowing off, and it builds into a film you can feel with the back of your hand. Under that film the paint is usually fine. It just needs a proper decontamination wash to get back to it, which is something a tunnel wash cannot do because it never removes what is bonded on.
Then there is sap and sprinkler water. Grove irrigation throws hard water onto anything parked nearby, and that dries into mineral spots. Sap from the trees does worse, it hardens in the heat and then pulls at the clear coat if somebody tries to scrape it. Both are normal out here and both are fixable, they just are not fixable with a bucket and a sponge.
Exeter also sits where the valley starts turning into foothills, and it is on the 198 and 65 run up toward Sequoia. Foothill roads leave a grey grit on the lower panels and inside the wheels that is heavier than valley dust, and it is abrasive, so the order of operations matters. Wheels and lower panels first, body second, so nothing gets dragged upward across good paint.
Exeter is about 18 miles northeast of us and roughly a 26 minute drive, out Highway 137 and then north on Highway 65. We are out that way regularly, so it is priced the same as a job in Tulare.

In practice, yes. It is finer and it carries a slight oil, so it sticks and it smears when it is dry-wiped. The fix is the same decontamination step we would use for road film, it just matters more out here because it builds back up faster.
